Counselling is for smart people
Smart people use the best tools to improve their lives.  They use an accountant to do their tax, a builder for their house, a doctor for the health, and an investment advisor for their wealth.  The same people use a counsellor to have the best relationships at home and work, to achieve their personal goals, and to overcome their weaknesses.

Counselling is where a counsellor sees a client to explore a difficulty, distress, dissatisfaction with an aspect of their life, or a loss of direction and purpose. The counsellor uses skills to try to perceive the difficulties from the client's point of view so they can help them to see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective. Counselling tries to bring clarity is the client without giving advice or directing a client to take a particular course of action.

A counselling session allows the client to explore aspects of their life and feelings in an environment that allows them to talk freely and openly. Suppressed feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief and embarrassment can become very intense and counselling offers an opportunity to explore the issues hopefully making them easier to understand.

A counsellor needs to show acceptance and respect for the client and to build a trust in the relationship so they can look at the many aspects of their life, their relationships and themselves which they may not have considered in the past or been in a position to face before.
